See what term coverage could cost you

Term life is the simplest kind of life insurance. You choose an amount, say $500,000, and a number of years, usually 10 to 30. You pay the same price every month, and if you pass away during that time, your family receives the full amount, generally free of income tax. For most young families it's the most protection per dollar they can buy.

Because it covers a set number of years and doesn't build cash value, term usually costs a fraction of permanent insurance for the same amount.

A price that stays putUn precio que no cambia

With level term, your premium is set the day the policy starts and stays the same for the whole term.

Money your family can use for anythingDinero que tu familia puede usar como quiera

The mortgage, daycare, college, groceries, or simply time to grieve without worrying about bills. The check goes to the people you name.

Coverage for the years that matter mostCobertura para los años que más importan

You can match the term to your biggest responsibilities: until the youngest finishes school, or until the house is paid off.

Room to change your mind laterPuedes cambiar de idea más adelante

Many term policies can be converted to permanent coverage without a new medical exam, within the window the carrier allows.

Depending on your age, health and the amount, some carriers can approve you with health questions and records instead of a nurse visit.

How much coverage to getCuánta cobertura conviene

A quick way to land on a number is to add up four things: your debts (car, cards, loans), about 10 years of your income, what's left on the mortgage, and future education costs for your kids. Subtract any life insurance you already have, for example through work, and the savings your family could use. That's roughly the gap term insurance fills.

Example: two working parents, two kids, one income of $60,000Ejemplo: dos padres que trabajan, dos hijos, un ingreso de $60,000

How many years to chooseCuántos años elegir

Pick the term that covers your longest money responsibility. Common choices:

  • 10 to 15 years if your kids are teens or you're close to paying off the house.
  • 20 years if you have young kids and want them covered through college.
  • 30 years if you just bought a home or just started a family.

Some people "ladder" two policies, for example $500,000 for 30 years plus $300,000 for 15 years, so coverage steps down as the kids grow and the mortgage shrinks.

What it typically costsCuánto suele costar

Price depends mostly on your age, your health, whether you use tobacco, the amount and the length. As a rough idea, a healthy 35-year-old non-smoker can often find $500,000 for 20 years in the range of $25 to $40 a month. The same coverage at 50 might be several times that, which is why many people lock in a price while they're younger.

Who it works best forPara quién funciona mejor

Term tends to be a great fit if you:

  • Have people who depend on your paycheck.
  • Have a mortgage or other big debts you wouldn't want to leave behind.
  • Want solid protection now without stretching your budget.
  • Are healthy today and want to lock in a lower price.

What happens if I outlive the policy?

Coverage ends and you stop paying. Some policies let you convert to permanent coverage before that, or renew at a higher price.

Do I need a medical exam?

Not always. Many carriers approve people with health questions and electronic records, depending on age and amount.

I already have life insurance at work. Is that enough?

Often it's one or two times your salary, and it usually stays with the job. Many families add a personal policy on top.

Is this a government program?

No. It is a private life insurance product sold by licensed agents. We are not affiliated with any government agency.

Will I get many calls?

No. Your request goes to one licensed agent in your state, not to a list of companies. You can tell the agent to stop calling at any time, and if you agreed to texts, reply STOP to stop them.

Does this cost me anything?

No. Talking with the agent is free and you don't have to buy anything. Agents pay Fernbrook Life for the requests we connect them with, and agents are paid by the insurance companies whose policies they sell.

No siempre.

¿Me van a llamar muchas personas?
